Notes on Adulting:The Secrets You Need to Know
We hide behind our masks and shield ourselves from the truths we'd rather keep hidden.
Hey there, my friends! I want to start by saying a big thank you for the incredible support and feedback I received on my last article. Your love and presence mean the world to me, and I'm truly grateful.
As I sit here, glued to my computer screen, I find myself contemplating the complexities of life and how I can better myself. This week has been a mix of ups and downs, and despite the challenges, I'm grateful for the experiences they bring. Right now, I'm totally absorbed in reading a book called "How to Sell to Nigerians" by Akin Alabi. It's got me thinking about life in a bigger sense. I have to admit, though, I'm feeling a bit weary. It's been frustrating trying to navigate personal growth and self-improvement.
A week ago, I reached out for support in starting a small business, and I want to give a special shout-out to those who followed my Instagram page. (Centric _ Scents). Since then, I've been diving into intense research, trying to gain a deeper understanding of the world of entrepreneurship. I've been devouring articles on business strategies and marketing. It hasn't been easy to humble myself and learn new things, but I know that anything worth having takes effort.
I can't help but think back to my university days when my biggest worries were about early morning classes and juggling assignments. It felt like the weight of the world was on my shoulders. Back then, the challenges I faced seemed overwhelming. Fast forward to today, and life has thrown me into a whole new set of unexpected situations. No one warned me about the art of hiding my struggles, navigating office politics, and pretending to get along with people I don't really care for. I long for the simplicity of going to work without the pressure of putting on a fake smile or pretending to be friends. But that's the reality I find myself in.
As I write this, I can't help but overhear a conversation where people are talking negatively about someone close to them. It's disheartening to witness how much pretense exists in our lives. We all play a part in this never-ending cycle of pretending. We put on a facade of everything being okay because we don't know how others can truly help us if we reveal our struggles. We hide behind our masks and shield ourselves from the truths we'd rather keep hidden.
In my previous newsletter, I mentioned that there's no instruction manual for life. We learn from our mistakes and use those lessons to guide us. It's important to seek guidance from mentors, but remember to reflect on their advice before taking action.
In conclusion, life is full of unexpected challenges, especially as we navigate adulthood. It's a journey of ups and downs, and sometimes we have to put on a brave face even when we're not feeling it. But remember, you're not alone in this. We're all figuring it out together.
Now, let me share a bit about what happened this week:
Books: I read a book called "How to Sell to Nigerians" by Akin Alabi. It offered practical tips on marketing and business strategy. I also started reading "Tribe of Mentors" by Timothy Ferriss, recommended by Vusi. It's packed with insightful advice from successful individuals and covers various aspects of life as a young adult.
Movies/Podcasts: I watched "Jenifa's Diary," which I found hilariously entertaining. It was a great relief. I also watched a few vlogs. On the podcast front, I listened to Vusi, The Growth Podcast, and Calm it down.
Music: I enjoyed listening to Cat Burns' live version of “live More, love More," G-Eazy ft. Kehlani's "Good Life," Wyn Stark ft. Andreas Moss' "Tomorrow," and 2baba's "Dance in the Rain." These tracks brought some good vibes to my week.
That's all for now, friends. Sending you lots of love and positive energy. Remember, we're all navigating this journey together, and we'll continue to learn and grow along the way.
See you soon! 🤎
