Notes on Life: Intentionality
Sometimes, the vision won’t even make sense at first, but that’s okay.
As I type this, I’m staring at my brown short nails—they have love inscriptions in three shades of brown (because why not?). If you know me, you know I’m obsessed with brown and black. If I could wear these two colors for the rest of my life, I absolutely would. But anyway, how are you?
Life has been crazy busy for me. There’s so much to do, and as someone who constantly hungers and thirsts for success, I just want to keep pushing and walking the path that leads there.
Speaking of success, let me take you back to the start of Centric Scents. I’ve always wanted to own a business, but my love for perfumes actually started way back in primary four. I had a classmate who always smelled so good, and our French teacher would walk into class and ask, “Qui sent si bon?” (Who smells so nice?)—It was such a core memory for me.
Fast forward to adulthood, and I knew I wanted to turn this passion into something real. During NYSC, I actually saved up money to start—but life had other plans. Bills came knocking, and just like that, the money disappeared. Then came imposter syndrome:
“What if people don’t buy?”
“Are people even interested in perfumes?”
“The economy is bad; people are just trying to eat!”
Excuses, excuses! And for the longest time, I let them hold me back.
But in 2023, I took the most audacious step of my life. I talked to the right person, got funded, and here I am today—running a growing business, learning every day, and pushing forward with intentionality.
Lessons on Intentionality
The truth is, there’s nothing we can’t achieve if we’re intentional about it. Sometimes, the vision won’t even make sense at first, but that’s okay. Clarity comes as you move. I’ve made mistakes, I still make mistakes, but the key is to keep chasing your goals like your life depends on it.
You don’t need to have it all figured out—just start.
Life Lately…
1. We onboarded our ambassadors today at Centric Scents! During the meeting, it hit me—I am a leader in my own capacity. They were so excited to hear from me and see the value in working with Centric. It was a beautiful experience and made me even more committed to this journey.
2. Running a business is expensive! I was not prepared for how much money goes into marketing, but I’ve also seen amazing results. The thing about influencer marketing is that the leads they bring already trust the brand because they trust the influencer. Marketing is literally the lifeline of a business, and we’ve signed up for this for life.
3. Being a business owner feels like being a mother. Centric Scents is my baby. I have to be intentional about feeding it, nurturing it, and helping it grow. There’s no break from that responsibility.
4. I finally took care of myself this weekend! I’ve suffered, guys. Every single naira that enters my account somehow finds its way back to Centric. But this Saturday, I knew it was maintenance time. I made my hair, fixed my nails, and reminded myself that self-care is also important. Maybe one day soon, I’ll even buy some vitamins—when the money permits. Lol.
I think that’s all for now! See you soon—I’d love to hear from you as well. Feel free to drop a comment and let’s catch up. Thank you, friends!
